I'm Feeling Depressed A Lot Lately, What Do You Do To Make Yourself Happy?

I am very moody lately and even my friends have been telling me that. I am usually a very happy and hyper person, but I'm down in the dumps lately. What are some of the ways you make yourself happy when you're down?

Think of all the positive things in life. All the things you have such as good friends, family and health. When I'm sad I think about the things that make me happy and, I make a joke out of all the things that trouble me.
Just stay strong. It's only temporary.

Hey  Celena, if its once in blue moon . Its normal.  But as you are saying its quite long.... Don't worry its also phase of time.  You will come out of it.
Wheneve i am sad i take fairy tales book and sit or watch cartoon.
Enjoy friends conversation, most importantly try to make others laugh and you will see the depression vanishing......take a step first to make someone smile by taking or doing something.
All the best..... I am sure you will come back bubbly and joyful

Zexion is right, it's only temporary.  something I find helps is physical activity.  it makes the body release endorphins which make you feel better.  a really good laugh will do the same thing.  not a little ha-ha type laugh, but a good red-in-the-face kind of laugh -- and if you can share it with a friend, that's even better.  if there's a bit of anxiety too, you can try relaxing and calming down with several very deep breaths (from the belly, not the chest - if you expand your chest you only fill the top part of your lungs, if you extend your belly while breathing in, you draw air all the way down to the bottom of your lungs and fill them completely).  it also feels good to help others...

Get out and about either find a job that you like to do or find something that you alone enjoy doing for pay that way you get a double reward for yourself both personally and monitarily. Because if you enjoy it then you will likely stay with it. And if it helps others then you will have tri fold reward for doing something you love doing. Landscaping/gardening/start a small business/go to work for a charitable organization/become a secret shopper/or start a new career that you have dreamed of being in. Get out in the sunshine and fresh air.

I like to talk to people here on the site, because they are so caring and always seem to know how to cheer me. I have a depression disorder so I deal with this a lot. The gratitude list adds some perspective. Physical activity is very good, Sunshine is crucial, laughter is the best medicine really. Put on some of your favorite music and dance, then come talk to us online or give your e-mail address to a select few, that I will tell you about, and they can forward you some good jokes and anecdotes. I went into a depression spiral last week, couldn't take my meds, and these guys literally pulled me up by the seat of my pants and placed me back on my feet. I was so bad that I deleted my account and was totally isolated[isolation is bad]. Someone E mailed me a copy of all the kind and thoughtful words of the friends I had online, we petitioned the blurt it staff and they resurrected my account and here I am all cheerful and I sure do feel loved. Hang in there, like a hair in a biscuit and we will get you through!
