Does Dundee Have An Airport?

Answer Question

Yes Dundee has an airport at a very convenient location which is also in the center of Scotland. Hence it is quite convenient to fly in and out. Although this is a regional airport, people can fly to London to make their connections. During weekdays there are about five flights to London City. It also has services during the week end.

The airport started functioning  in the year 1963 and at that time had a grass runway that was only 900 metre long. The first regular passenger service flew to Glassgow  in 1966. over the time the grass runway was  replaced and made longer. Today is about 1400 meters long.  Runway lights were added and maintenance hanger was built  in 1982 when it also got the "customs status".
Unfortunately Dundee airport is running at a loss now but no decision of closure has been announced yet. Currently airport is trying to have more scheduled flight. However, there is a problem with this as there is not sufficient space available for big aircrafts as the runway is small and it cannot be made any longer due to dearth of space
ScotAirways is based in Dundee. It operates several regional services chartered flights.
