There are various factors which collectively determine the time to charge an electric car. The first factor is the type of battery that is being used to charge the car. There are many types of batteries which cannot tolerate high charging rates and they take long duration to charge.
Secondly, the amount of power for charging also determines how fast does it charge. The faster you will charge, more amps you will require. Third factor is the temperature which can also increase or reduce the efficiency of the battery to charge the electric car.
On average an electric car takes about 0.17-0.37 kilowatt-hours per mile. So, even it can take ten minutes to charge an emptied tank.
