The Anglo-Saxon period started in the fifth century and ended in the year 1066. On the other hand, the Middle Ages was between the year 500 A.D. and the year 1450 A.D. In other words, the Anglo-Saxon peiod was before the Middle Ages.

The Ango Saxon period is a relatively modern term.
It describes the period from the end of Roman rule in Britain to the coming of the Normans in 1066.
The Ango Saxon period lasted for around 600 years and by the eve of the Norman conquest the political landscape of Britain or at least what we now know as England had changed dramatically. It was made up of kingdoms and sub- kingdoms. The four kingdoms were East Anglia, Mercia, Northumbria and Wessex. Wessex survived the Viking incursions and Wessex army killed Eric Blood Axe, ruler of York in 954.
