    France formally known as the French Republic basically is a nation whose metropolitan territory is situated in Western Europe and consists of many different overseas islands and regions which are based in other continents.

    Metropolitan France expands from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. France shares its land borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Andorra and Spain. The census report stated that the total area of this region was 260,558 square miles. The total population of this country as of the year 2007 was estimated to be 64,102,140, having an average population density of 293 per square mile. The current prime minister of France is Dominique de Villepin. Paris is the current capital of France.
