What Are The Functions Of Random-access Memory?

Answer Question

Random-access Memory is also called RAM memory. It is simply the memory or place where the computer runs it's programs. RAM memory is volatile memory in that as soon as power is off anything in RAM is gone! RAM memory is MUCH MUCH faster than using your hard drive to run the computer. However, in Windows, if you run out if RAM, IE if it's full of programs etc. The computer will buffer it to your hard drive to make the computer think that there is more memory in the computer than there really is. But as I said above, it's very slow to operate this way. If you get a virtual memory full, message, and then it will say that it is buffering it to the hard drive, or something like that, you might want to look at turning off some programs. Sometimes if the computer has been running for  along time, you would be wise to save your programs and re-start Windows to free up this memory. Windows doesn't handle memory too well, and sometimes your memory is NOT full, but is reported that way as Windows do not free RAM space after it's done using it. Therefore it can fill up and be unusable, and still not be full, but to the computer it appears as full. I should say that Windows doesn't handle memory too well. But it is really the programmers fault as they didn't put a rontiue in to release the memory.  I hope this helps you.........Take care.  :-D
