If A Company Asks About My Hobbies, What Should We Answer?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

What types of hobbies reflect the kind of person that you are and that you want to present to your prospective employer?

'Hanging out' and 'Playing XBox' might seem like the hobbies of a slacker, where as 'Spending Time with Friends' and 'Competitive Gaming' might just put the spin on your activities.

Remember that whatever you write will come back to bite you in the bum, if you say you are a third dan black belt in karate, expect someone to want a demonstration or expect you to teach self-defence to their kids or something.  If you are going to lie, lie close to truth.

Let's look at some power hobbies, that might say special something about you:

    PowerHobbies could include:

Horse-Back Riding (known as Horse Riding in the UK) this says you can stay in charge of a potentially difficult situation.

Canoeing: Brave, Adventurous, and won't sink without a trace

Speaking Foreign Languages: good at conversing with clients in other countries, versatile, smart.

    Reading:  Thoughtful, reflective, learned

Other fun pastimes would be good too, but again, make sure you actually do them, did them or could do them at short notice!
