First, be sure that you begin your essay with a succinct introduction and a clear, concise thesis statement. It is best that you use a standard "three point" format for your thesis. This simply means that you should aim to make three key points or arguments in your paper.

Once you have an introduction, dedicate one paragraph for each point mentioned in your thesis. You should elaborate on your arguments and provide specific evidence to support your points. This will usually involve citing your sources, or referring to specific people and events. Above all, be sure to remain focused and always avoid vague statements.

You should close your essay with a brief conclusion where you reiterate the points in your introduction. If you follow this format, you should have a two page essay, comprised of about five paragraphs. Although you would certainly have more freedom to change the format in longer essays, it is best to stick to this method as closely as possible if you are writing a very short paper.
