"I know Why The Cage Bird Sings" is basically an autobiography of the writer Maya Angelou's life. This book was inspired by the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968. She was very depressed at this. This was the time of the Civil Rights Movement. This book covers the childhood experienced of the writer.   The name of this book has come from a poem called Sympathy written by Paul Laurence Dunbar.
