The ancient Temple of Karnak is an impressive ancient monument in the day but the modern Egyptians put on a light show for tourists in several different languages on most evenings of the week.

As the crowd gathers, the temple is lit up in stages and recorded actors voices and music tells the stories associated with the temple. Walking though the temple columns to the next meeting point, in the eerie lighting that has been put there is a wonderful experience.

The story continues as the crowd moves through different parts of the temple and the finale is performed as the crowd takes its seats in a specially built area overlooking the ancient lake. This lake was used by the priests to purify themselves in ancient ceremonies.

The seating area looks over the whole site of the temple and over into modern Luxor, dominated by shining spires of its modern mosques.
