I believe there are 50 the last time I was in school there were.  Then the US owns Peurto Rico and the Virgin Islands. So we don't need passports to travel there nor do they to travel here.  If we got a new state wouldn't we have to add a star to our flag?  I believe each star on the flag represents a state in the US.  Then again i have not been in school forever, and never did really well in history.  So am I right or wrong?

There are of course fifty states which have been named already more than once, so won't waste the bandwidth.
