What Does The Terms Convergent Mean?

The word convergent denotes the act of tending to one point. It is the adjective form of the word convergence. This word is used to different contexts like mathematics, biology, physics etc. it has different connotations in different contexts. In Mathematics convergent refers to a continued fraction.

Thus a convergent in the mathematical context is a sequence of values. It is acquired through the evaluation of successive truncations of a continued fraction. Convergent of a continued fraction is considered as its best possible rational approximation of a real number. In biological context the word convergent is used in reference with an adaptive kind of evolution seen in birds and insects of unrelated species due to similar environments. This evolution is known as convergent evolution.
