    The prime minister of India in the year 1970 was Indira Gandhi. She held the post of the prime minister of India for three terms, that is between the years 1966 and 1971 (first term), between the years 1971and 1977 (second term) and between the years 1980 and 1984. She was assassinated in the year 1984.

      Indira Gandhi was the prime minister of India in 1970. She served as the prime minister of India from 1966 to 1977 and 1980 to 1984. She was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister. Her son, Rajiv Gandhi was India's youngest prime minister. She was married to Feroze Gandhi, who was an Indian politician and a journalist. She was born on November 19, 1917 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. On October 31, 1984 she was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards as she had ordered to open fire in a Sikh temple which resulted in the killing of thousands of Sikh pilgrims. She died on her way to the hospital. She was cremated on November 3, 1984 and named the place Shakti Sthal.
