Atheroma is the most common degenerative condition of the circulatory system, arteries specifically, where lipid rich yellowish plaques are deposited in the lining of the medium and large arteries. This causes a disease known as atherosclerosis which is typified by the resultant loss of elasticity ('hardening') and narrowing of the arteries.
