African spurred tortoise, which is also known as Sulcata, is a species of tortoise which do not hibernate. They are usually found in Sahara desert and they do not hibernate because of their natural environment.

Careful taking the advise of sehri, although Sulcatas can make very good pets, and do not really hibernate, they are the 3rd largest species of tortoise in the world, growing up to 100lbs (or more) I have one and she is very social and I love her to death, but I know a lot about the species and how to care for them, they have fairly difficult requirements. You may want to go with a Russian tortoise, they are significantly smaller (only 9-11 inches) They do hibernate in the wild, but in captivity, no tortoise really needs to hibernate. You should be putting UV lights and heat pads in their enclosure which will make them believe it is always spring/ summer time and they will not hibernate. Good luck and enjoy your future pet. Tortoises are great!
