The moon and the sun attract the water from our Earth. At the moment that at a specific location the water is attracted by the moon/sun, the water will rise. This is what you see at beaches and rivers that are directly connected to the sea. The shoreline will move more closer to the land side. During this period, when the beach will get smaller due to the moving shoreline, we speak of: High Tide (the water get's high).
