What Was The M1 Garand?

The M1 Garand is more formally referred to as the United States Rifle that is, Caliber .30, M1. It is hailed as the very first semi-automatic rifle worldwide that was generally issued to infantry. The M1 Garand officially became the standard service rifle as per the United States military in the year 1936, after replacing the Springfield M1903 rifle. Later, in the year 1957 it was replaced by the rifle known as M14 (this in turn was essentially derived from the M1).

It was developed by John Garand, who was a Springfield Armory firearms designer. Accessories for this rifle were plentiful. For instance, assorted styles of bayonets fit while even a grenade launcher was offered.

This service rifle, till date is used by several varied drill teams in addition to being a popular civilian firearm.
