It is thought that flamingos stand on one leg to rest one of its legs. However, in order to keep its balance, the flamingo will stand on two legs when it is feeding.
Often the flamingo can be seen standing on one leg for a certain amount of time and then swapping over and standing on the other leg for an amount of time. No one really knows why flamingos do this, but it has been suggested that by swapping legs to help the blood to circulate through its long legs.
It has also been suggested that the flamingo, like some other animals, might turn half its brain off when it sleeps. The leg that is down is linked to the part of the brain that is awake . The leg that is up, is linked to the part of the birds brain that is asleep.
Another suggestion has been made that flamingos hold one leg up when they are resting because they are able to keep their balance better.

maybe flamingos stand in one leg because they go in ecstasy. They remain in perfect quietness and they enjoy such experience. It is like their souls enter another dimension, another world. They have a soul instinct that allows them to paralized their hole body to remain in one-legged-position.
