How To Tell If Your Hydrangea Are Still Alive And What To Do To Make Them Bloom?

I bought several hydrangea this year and they look like dry sticks coming out of the ground they have no leaves or nothing they are planted in the same area as my other hydrangea that is two years old and it has a lot of leaves on it are the dead or is there something I can do to encourage growth.
