Do You Know Anything About Colic?

We have a beautiful daughter of 4 weeks. She has been an angel so far, only crying when she is hungry, needs changing, or needs more attention than we have given her... Other than that, she sleeps or stares contentedly out at the world. Until recently! Now between the hours of 6 and 9 pm almost every night she wails inconsolably. We have been told by our pediatrician that more than likely she has colic. We were given a pamphlet that suggest smaller feeding portions and more burping... But no other real info. Suggestions for treatment?

    Hi Fontlow,
My wife and I also suffered with my first son's colic for some months.
Our doctor also told us that even they didn't know the real reason why the baby had colics and that the only solution was to get our baby to drink the milk slowly and get to burp afterwards giving him gentle strokes on his upper back.
We also found a good solution that worked for us that was walking him across the living room to the rhythm of some Stevie Wonder record. I know it sounds crazy but he seemed to calm down.
    Good luck with that!

The good news with colic is that it usually disappears as quickly as it arrives, but it can last up to 12 weeks. If the crying is particularly bad i suggest 1 tsp sugar in a bottle with 2oz warm water. It can work like magic, but don't do it too often or baby may get loose stools (not to mention a sweet tooth). Don't worry, it will end.
