The complete recovery usually takes3 to even 7 weeks.During this time it is advisable that you stay away from stress and anger and not eat heavily and spicy foods. Also after this your sex drive may reduce as well as the vaginal fluids. It is best that you have some relative or friend taking care of you even just for a short while daily.Good luck and best wishes.

Being a smoker, the thing to worry about isn't the operation itself which is pretty routine, its the general anaesthetic. Before the operation, the anaesthetist will check out your lings and blood oxygen levels. Unless he is satisfied they will not proceed. So don't worry, they know what they are doing.

Most important is to listen to your Dr. And your body. I smoked for years and also when I had my surgery. After the first few days I was able to do some light housekeeping. The biggest thing was the first bowl movement following surgery. Also It was very important to use a pillow to press over the incision when you cough, believe me don't try to cough without the pillow. The hormones were a big deal. I had to have them and still do, without them I suffer from severe hot flashes. Other than expected pain from surgery I had no problems. It was the best thing I had ever done. Of course everyone is different so listen to your body it will tell you what to do. Good luck and GOD BLESS. Youthmom

You might have already had your surgery, but I thought I would let you know that you are not the only one out there with the same fears. I will find out tomorrow at the doctors office if I will have the same surgery and I too and a smoker. I really have concerns about this and wished I did not have this habit. I do know that God is in control and every thing is going to be ok and that he can also take the smoking addiction if I would just allow him too.

I am a smoker and had a vaginal hyst. 2 days ago (overnight stay) It went really well. No pain just alittle bloating. Let your dr know all your concerns and he will put your mind at ease. Good luck and keep positive. The surgery is really easy.

I just had a vaginal hysterectomy 2 days ago and I real great. No pain just a little bloating. This surgery isn't bad at all but do follow your drs advice. I am also a smoker and surgery went well. Only an overnight stay. What a relief because I was so worried of the unknown. Trust me, its a piece of cake. Best wishes and good luck!

I just had my hysterectomy Dec. 18, '07 and I am a smoker of 25 years. I was told not to smoke the day of surgery (11:15 a.m.) and I knew I had to have just one when I awoke that morning. No complications with that. I just started week 6 of recovery and although it has been a slow process, all is well. I will have to do the 8 weeks of recovery and am stir crazy, but it's one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have had Adenomyosis for 6 or more years. I was told it was Endometriosis, which has a lot of the same symptoms. I had a second opinion. Good luck!
