Should I Quit Piano?

I have been playing piano for 6 years. I always feel like I am being left in the dust because I don't really think that I am "not even better than a kid younger than me"! I don't know whether to quit or not because I don't think that I'm not even improving. But, I think that my parents will be really, really mad if I quit and I wasted their time and money. Please help!

If your not playing the piano because you want to you will never be your best at in because you have to have passion for music to master it.

Playing a musical instrument is a great talent to have.  You have to enjoy playing it and practicing to fully immerse yourself in it.  I guess the real thing you have to ask yourself in order to decide rather or not to quit is "do you really enjoy playing?"  If you like playing the piano then keep playing it and stop worrying if people are doing better then you.  Make your own obstacles to overcome and do it.  If you dont like playing maybe you would like to switch to a different instrument.  If that is the case bring it up with your parents.  Do it in a nice fashion and tell them that you would like to try to play violin or "whatever you choose" instead.  Whatever you decide don't get discouraged because someone is better then you.  That will just help make sure they stay better then you.  Practice and set personal goals to try to achieve.  When you get there move the bar higher.

Thanks. I was thinking of that, too. I played the flute before and I quit because it was just the school band and I didn't have much time.

If you get pleasure from playing piano then keep on doing it. Whether or not you are the greatest is neither here nor there. In my opinion, your parents money is not being wasted if you are getting pleasure from it, but if you feel you are being forced into doing something that you do not want to do, then you must make this clear to your parents.  i wish i was able to play an instrument, even half decently. :)

Just realize that there will almost always be someone better than you in the things you take on. It's depressing, but real, so just do things at your own pace. Your question is self-explanatory. You don't like it, so move on. It would be no fun to spend a whole life doing things you used to like but don't anymore.
