How Do I Get The Data Out Of An External Hard Drive That Is Not Running?

HD is a Fathom Titanium 80G externally powered and no longer recognised by my pc. The drive seems to have stopped running as there is no longer any sound from inside when I turn it on.

Your drive may have burnt out, in that case you cannot retrieve the data from it.  There is also a chance that the power supply may be damaged. By changing the power supply, you will be able to use the drive as before.

Get a USB to ide/sata cable and make sure it includes a power supply. Remove the drive from the enclosure and you might be able to read through your usb port.
---} Click here to see one such cable {--- If the drive itself has crashed there are data recovery services that will disassemble the drive and capture any readable data directly from the platters. This is rather expensive so I would gamble on the cable first.
---} Click here for a good data recovery service. {---

I think the technology is about the same for all devices. Just make sure that the one you order has the proper connector for your particular drive. Oh and thanks for the Wow.
