    The diet of people in Poland comprises of cereal crops such as rye, wheat, millet, barley and buckwheat. Rye Bread forms the main diet, while Buckwheat is also getting popularised among their diet. Pickled vegetables such as cucumbers, beetroot, cabbage (sauerkraut) and kohlrabi have become an indispensable ingredient of Polish cooking.

    The other part of their diet consists of herring, fished in the Baltic, which is generally prepared with spices and vinegar. This food is usually eaten on days of fast and holy days and of late it is termed as their 'favorite national food'. Sour cream, curd cheese and soured milk, are mostly the stored ingredients found in every Polish kitchen, while fresh cream and milk are always kept for fermenting. Dairy products are always used as a special ingredient for taste and flavor in Polish food. Meat products also form an important part of their diet. The most famous is the kielbasa, the Polish sausage. Polish strongly abide the saying "Jedzcie, pijcie i popuszczajcie pasa"... "Eat, drink and loosen your belt".
