That is what i do as well.
I rate down people who give an incorrect answer without explanation. I often write a comment if there is just a small mistake or omission in the explanation given. I sometimes give a flippant answer to unanswerable questions such as "What is the answer?" or "Will I pass?" or "What is my average?" or "Which answer below is correct?" (when there is nothing "below"). Sometimes I just reroute those to Paranormal > Fortune Telling.
Happens often - it is not the answer they want to hear regardless of whether it is right or wrong. I don't even bother looking to see if my answers get rated. You can answer thousands of questions and not get marked or a thanks.

Some are; some aren't. People tend to measure up to your expectations, no matter how high or low they may be.
I really hate this thumbs up-thumbs down rating system. It seems to be the cause of a lot of controversy. I liked the 5 star system much better. If you didnt totally agree with an answer, but wanted to at least recognize that the answer was honest, you could give 3 or 4 stars. Now its yes I like the answer, or no I dont like the answer. The thumbs up or down system has opened this site up for a lot spitefulness. I think a lot of people that give thumbs downs are doing so to either express their dislike for the answer, or doing so just because they didnt get the answer they wanted. Im sure theres a lot of spitefulness going on too. If someone doesnt like you, they give thumbs down..... No matter what your answer.

Because many people on blurtit.com might be a little skeptical by the answer. I get that a lot sometimes (the thumbs down) and it's just because some people don't believe thats the answer they're looking for. Maybe they tried it and it didn't work or maybe they just do it just to do it to make others seem dumb or they don't know what they're talking about. Don't get upset over it though i'm sure your answer's are a big help to many people. :]]]]]]]

I dont know, i havent been here very long and i answered a question about a dog. I knew this answer to be true to the knowledge f my vet. And they said it it was wrong.

I really hate when this happens, I think at times, it might be because the person who did the bad rating, might think that their answer is the only answer, and so, they will rate someone else poorly. I have seen that happen. Other times, it might be that the rater for one reason or another doesn't like you, and will intentionally leave poor ratings to hurt you and your status. Other times, it could be the person that you answered the question for, and they just might not have liked the answer that you gave them. I am sure there are other reasons out there too, just, that I am tired, and I have a cold and should be resting. Lol Hope this helps you out. Happy blurting. Tigg

Because some people are losers with no life (as i say in my question relating to this topic) and they just love the opportunity to ruin someone's day. Don't let it get to you, just don't answer any more questions from that profile if you think it was him or her that gave you the rating.

They are jealous, and maybe you stole their answer. Usually, there would be a gang that always give thumbs down ratings. You should tell a moderator, and when they find out who it is, they can kick them or this person of the site. So, I guess they know they are dorks overall.P.S. There should be a middle thumb. (Not finger. LOL)

Some people are just ignorant and stoop to the lowest point all the time. They are probably the ones that are opinionated, but not open to other peoples' thoughts. I'll never have sympathy for people like them.

This is the same question I wanted to know... I know! People give you a thumbs down for no good reason or because they don't like you. It annoys me and I wish it would stop.

Yeah I am also struggling with this issue as it is natural with human behavior that they don't want to hear answer which sometimes bitter for them. Most of times what I do while giving rating especially when giving negative one I try to check if it's neutral and honest view point of the person. Sometimes more than disciplined and tough reply is avoidable also to be replaced by educative and philosophical reply. Hope it helps!
