Spine is made up of vertebrae which contain cartilage discs in between them. The discs in turn contains a circle of connecting tissue with a gel like core in between. A slipped disc occurs when a circle of these connective tissues break down due to advancement in age. This causes the soft part to swell causing weakness. Slipped discs are are in the chest part. They usually affect the lower back. A slipped disc can be caused due to an accident, injury from a fall or physically strenuous activity. Usually there are no symptons of slipped dics. Pain is only caused if pressure is applied on the spinal cord, cauna equida or the nreve roots. Patients history can help diagnose slipped disc. In some cases which disc is affected can also be determined.
