 Occidental pertains to the characteristic of European countries or nations located in the western hemisphere. Simply put, a "western trait or western culture" can be called as "occidental.

The word can be either an adjective or a noun. As an adjective, occidental means "western." As a noun, the word implies a person who is a native or the one who resides in occidental or western countries. Another synonym for the word occidental is "Hesperian." As an oriental person refers to a person who resides in the East, an occidental is someone who heralds from the West. Here is an example of the usage of the word in a sentence:
Since Brian was occidental, he found it a little awkward to relish Oriental dish, but nevertheless was enamored by the taste
