Which Artists Fall Into The Impressionist Era?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Impressionism began in the mid-19th century, when a group of Parisian artists began exhibiting work together. Although at the time they seemed to have only a loose connection, they went on to found one of the most important movements in art history.

The Impressionist paintings concentrate on the varying characteristics of light, and often make use of light colours and visible brush strokes. This was revolutionary at the time, as other artists were still painting only studio-based still life, with the intention of removing all trace of the artist's hand. The Impressionists sought to remove art from the studio, and focus on the interaction between the artist and the subject.

Many Impressionist artists are now hugely famous. In particular these include Manet, Monet, Pisarro, and Degas. Paul Cezanne was also an Impressionist, although he later broke away from the movement and is now most notable for his influence over the emerging Cubist movement.
