What Is An Evangelical Christian?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Evangelical Christians are usually seen as being more 'crusading' than other types of Christianity.  Thsi is primarily because an Evangelical Christian believes that it is his or her duty to bring other people to salvation and have their sins washed away by Jesus.
Fundamental to their beliefs is that Jesus has to be accepted into a persons heart and a person has to be 'saved' before they can go to heaven.
Largely this is based on Jesus's preaching in the Book of John, where he says that 'No man cometh unto the father, but by me'.
Other Christian doctrines view belief in God and living a good Christian life as being sufficient to ensure that a person can go to heaven.
Some evengelical groups believe in 'speaking in tongues' and also in healing through spiritualism or 'the laying on of hands'.
Evangelical movements have recently enjoyed a revival within the US and the UK, some feel as a reaction to hwo secular Society is becoming.
