This Question Is Answered:
How can we get our kitten to stop biting everything? She bites fingers, cords, papers, books, and even metal lamps!
Our kitten bites all the time! She bites, while purring, when being held, chews cords and cables, she even chewed on her vet records when we brought her home! She chews on our metal lamp (the base), you name it she chews it. She's very affectionate, eats well, uses the litter box regularly, plays with our other kitten, and curls up with us. She purrs frequently, even while she is biting our fingers! We are afraid she's going to chew through a cord when we're not home and hurt herself, or worse. Please help us!

Well, my mother has experience with cats, her best method, is buying a spray bottle and fill it with water, every time she does it, a little spray of water. When you are not going to be home, put her in a spare room, if you have one, that poses no danger to her, or put her in a carrier, at least you know that she is okay. I am sure that you thought of buying her chew toys, maybe it is just of phase, like how puppies chew on everything. I hope that this helps, good luck!!

I foster kittens, chewing/biting can be a problem. Whoever raised her (foster family for a shelter?) didn't start training her not to chew/bite early enough.

Spraying with water doesn't address the behavior or give an alternative. It's just a negative consequence, that cat won't learn.

Instead, buy a few kitten chew toys from Petstages. When she chews on your fingers, say sternly "No Bite." and replace your fingers with the chew toy. Keep doing this! Be deligent! She will soon learn to not bite humans. That is a good first step!

Then, move onto other objects. As she bites, "No Bite." and replace the behavior. It's possible she's hungry or is seeking nutrients if her food is a cheapo brand. You can try better food (Science Diet, Iams, Nutro).

If she's just eating wet/canned food, you might want to try giving some dry crunchy food through the day and that may satiate her need to chew.

Good luck
