Edinburgh is a great city. There you will find many B&Bs with good value accommodation at good rates. There are also some Travel Inns and Express by Holiday Inns close to the City Center.
If want to stay in a smaller town then go for Linlithgow. There is historical Palace, Loch and a little but good range of bars and restaurants. Also check out the following site
