Amongst those women who do not breastfeed their new born, around eighty percent get their period within ten weeks' time. This is because breastfeeding retards the process of ovulation and in turn menstruation for about twenty weeks more. Although it is quite common to get your period earlier or later than twenty weeks.

This discrepancy occurs as every female possesses differing hormone levels hence it is tough to pin point exactly when she will get her period after giving birth to a child.

Some women get their period in the following month after delivery, and on the other side of the spectrum, one may even get her period after a year. However, if the time period is too less or too long, it would be advisable to visit your gynaecologist.
