    Grid computing is very important for the dissemination of information within large corporations, governmental structures and worldwide manufacturers to name only a few of purposes.

    Grid computing works very similar to the concept of electrical grids, through which large power plants are able to share their power production with electrical companies. With grid computing a corporation using hardware and software through IT applications, creates one large infrastructures using CPU cycles and millions of systems connecting all the computers within the corporation to form a grid. The information allows for grid computing, which works as a pool of accessible information for all who need it..

    Distributed computing is similar to a subset of grid computing and is limited in memory and processing power. Its purpose is to the serve the user. Dissemination of the same information via many computers at the same time. Preservation of documentation for full access of all members of a corporation, specific to their need for information.  Research is made available worldwide to corporation employees.

    Firewalling is an important tool used in both grid and distributing computing but is essential to grid computing in the area of security.
