Carl Hiaasen first started writing with his co-worker and fellow journalist, Bill Montalbano in 1980. They both wrote three books together which received a lot of critical acclaim from many critics. In the year of 1986, Carl decided to write his own solo book. He always wanted to write books relating to crime and mystery. His first book was titled 'Tourist Season which was released in the same year. The book is about a small gang that has been operating in the state of Florida and trying to preserve the nature of the state by killing all the tourists that come there. They fear that the tourists are trying to hamper the nature of the state. They unleash a hungry crocodile on the people and finally unleash it on a big public parade.

The story then shows how the crocodile and the gang are captured by a private detective.
