Why Does The Sun Have Topless Models On Page Three?

One of the most famous (infamous?) things about the UK newspaper industry is the Page Three model in the Sun newspaper.  As all the other major tabloids dropped any hint of overt nudity from their pages, the Sun still continues to show partially nude women on Page 3 of its newspaper, unless something REALLY important happens in the news, then the model is pushed further back.

Many men still enjoy seeing the semi-naked model on page three every day, I suppose it exists as a type of fantasy.  The man, unhappy with his life can at least see a lovely pair of breasts every day. However, this seems a sad and stupid reason to have them there.  They are now known officially as glamour models, although showing your naked form to people all across the UK for money seems particularly seedy and not glamorous at all.

For a while back in the Eighties and again in the Nineties, the Sun had a Page Seven man, trying to even things up.  This proved amazingly unpopular with the bricklayers and engineers who read the Sun, well most of them anyway.
