What Does Streptococcus Mean?

Streptococcus basically is a species of spherical, Gram-positive bacteria belonging to the phylum Firmicutes. Cellular separation takes place beside a single axis in these bacterias, and hence they develop in chains or pairs, and thus they get the name Greek streptos, which means easily bent or twisted. As compared to staphylococci which split along a number of axes and released a grape-like unit of cells. In accumulation to strep throat, components of this species are accountable for the occurrence of meningitis, bacterial pneumonia, endocarditic, erysipelas and also necrotizing fasciitis.

It should be kept in mind that quiet a few streptococcal varieties are non-pathogenic. Streptococci are a section of the standard commensal flora of the mouth, skin intestine, and the higher respiratory region of human beings. Streptococcus comes under the Bacilli class.
