How Old Is Earth?

Answer Question

13 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

We may feel at times as though we have always been on this planet and the answer is that we probably have been. The amount of time that Earth has been around is actually one of those million dollar questions – it's impossible to say. However, some scientist say that around 5000 million years ago our planet was nothing more than part of a cloud of dust and gas, spinning around in space. Around this time, something caused the material in the dust to contract and form the Sun, the Earth and the other planets in our Solar System.

It is believed that when the gasses and dust settled, they formed a circular shape of molten rock and nickel sank to create the Earth's core. Like an open wound healing, the core created the Earth's crust, which began to form around 4000 million years ago. Small plates of this crust floated on oceans of molten rock. As the crust developed, volcanoes erupted, water vapour condensed and formed what we know as oceans and continents began to form – and Voila! Here we are! So next time you have a moan about the train being late, just think, if the dust and gasses hadn't settled, we wouldn't be here anyway!

          Carbon dating isnt accurate
carbon gets old real quickly so our estimation of the earth is wrong and way less then the earth being millions or billions years old
