Who Is The Greatest Manager In The History Of English Football?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The title of greatest manager ever in English football is always difficult to argue.  Liverpool fans would argue the award is between Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley, while Manchester United fans would argue it's either Matt Busby or Alex Ferguson.

Notts Forest and Derby County fans would argue that Brian Clough's achievements at thier respective clubs out weigh that of the supposed heavy weights of English soccer.  For Clough to win sucessive European cups with a team like Nottingham Forest is remarkable and in the money driven world of today its unlikely it would happen again.

Polls and surveys are continually taken regarding the subject and they usually result in one mans name coming out above the rest.

The achievements of Bob Paisley are remarkable.  In only nine years as Liverpool boss he won six league champoinships, three league cups, one UEFA cup and most importantly, three European cups, an achievement unrivaled in English football.
