How Do You Work Out A Lineal Meter?

It's a meter.  The ordinary metric meter, which is defined formally, nowadays as the distance travelled by light in vacuum in 1 / 299,792,458th of a second.  Also equal to 3.2808 Imperial feet (where 1 foot = 12 inches).

The correct way to write this is linear meter; "lineal" refers to ancestry, as in who your grandparents' grandparents were.  But this misspelling is commonly used so you're not necessarily to blame.

The concept of linear meters (as opposed to just saying meters) becomes useful when converting from something like area or cubic meters.  The whole point of saying "linear" is to distinguish from square or cubic meters.
