The city of New York is served by three major airports:
LaGuardia Airport (LGA) handles the vast bulk of US domestic flights. It is located eight miles from midtown Manhattan in Queens on the Grand Central Parkway and processes around 20 million mainly domestic passengers per year. Nearly all US domestic flights use LaGuardia.
John F Kennedy (JFK) airport is some fifteen miles from midtown Manhattan, being located in Queens, at the southern end of the Van Wyck Expressway. It is the busiest of the three airports, handling approximately 30 million domestic and international passengers. The bulk of non-US flights arrive here.
Newark International Airport (EWR) is second only to JFK in its volume of traffic. Sixteen miles southwest of the city in New Jersey, Newark caters for both domestic and international air services. It's further from the city but generally less crowded and has more modern facilities than the other two.
