The Secret History is the first book by the beautiful and amazingly talented author Donna Tartt. (Warning, this contains some plot spoiling material!)
Donna Tartt was born in 1963 in Mississippi. Her first work was published at the age of thirteen. Somewhat like her characters in Secret History, she transferred to a small liberal arts college in Vermont. There was a huge media storm and she was famous before the novel even hit the shelves. The movie rights have been snapped up if you can't face the length of this truly original and wonderful novel.
It is quite a hug tome of over five hundred pages and concerns the students of an eccentric Classics teacher, the surreal Julian, at a university college in Vermont. Some of the students discover the ancient pagan and end up murdering a local farmer.
Over so many pages, the characters begin to fall apart under the strain of keeping such a brutal act and eventually they murder one of their own.
