Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and apply for a government pell grant. If you want to start college in the fall term then you need to apply now. If you apply online its much faster than if you mail it in. I usually get my response within a couple days of applying. When you apply you get the grant for both fall and spring terms. You will have to reapply every fall. Eligibility for the grant is based on your household income, and you have to maintain a good GPA to be accepted for a second year, they also check for criminal records. Check with the college you want to attend to see what their eligibility for pell grants are. Some colleges will only accept the pell payment for a 2 year program. Others will accept it year after year as long as you are reasonably working toward a degree. I am in my 4th year, and will graduate this coming spring. I took my time and completed all the pre required courses before I entered the MLT program so I could concentrate on only my program courses and not have to worry about required math and English credits. The amount of your grant is determined by how many credits you wish to take...if you want to be a full time student then you will need to have a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. If you want to be part time then your grant will be considerably smaller. I carry full time every term so I receive a full grant that covers all my tuition, Id and parking, all my books and supplies, and I usually get some money back after its all paid for. The extra from the grant is yours to use for what you want.... I save mine for gas...lol... My college is 35 miles from home. Good luck..I hope you get into college this fall!!

These sites will help you find what grants you qualify for and how to apply for them- www.govbenefits.gov - www.grants.gov - www.usa.gov - www.grantsolutions.gov- and they will even tell you that grants DO NOT have to be repaid...only loans from the government have to be repaid. So as long as you do not click on anything that says "loan" then it will be free never needing to be repaid!
