When Do Dogs Get There 1 Period?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

First heat periods in dogs depends upon breed. Some dogs can get their first heat periods at the age of 4 months while some at 12 months. So, average age when dogs can get their first heat cycle is 6-9 months. Usually, dogs can have 2 heat cycles in a year which can be 6-7 months apart. It is not recommended to breed dogs after their first heat cycle because they are not physically mature enough to afford stress of pregnancy and labor.
