This is why it is better to get the book critiqued before you send it off.

Self-publishing is costly, and therefore you need to feel like you want to make the effort, which you may not feel like doing if you have faced rejection so many times.  The best thing to do before self-publishing is to gain a little feedback on the book. Create a website for yourself to display your work, or place your work on a site for writers. Get people to leave comments and feedback on your work. Once you have done this, you should get an idea of what people think generally about your work.

If you don't want to do this, then you may have to write something else. The more you write, the more you will improve, therefore giving you a better chance of producing something that will really catch the publisher's eye.
