My Book Just Keeps Getting Rejected By Publishers And Literary Agents. Is It Time To Give Up?

Answer Question

Not necessarily. Get the book critiqued so that you can be informed of what needs improving. You could also try lending the book to someone other than your friends and family to get a real opinion. Nowadays, literary agents are very difficult to please, even more so than publishers. Because they receive so many manuscripts each week, it is very difficult for a literary agent or publisher to enter into correspondence with any authors that they reject. This is why it is better to get the book critiqued before you send it off.

You could always self-publish, but this is a risk if you have been rejected so many times. Self-publishing is costly, and therefore you need to feel like you want to make the effort, which you may not feel like doing if you have faced rejection so many times.  The best thing to do before self-publishing is to gain a little feedback on the book. Create a website for yourself to display your work, or place your work on a site for writers. Get people to leave comments and feedback on your work. Once you have done this, you should get an idea of what people think generally about your work.

If you don't want to do this, then you may have to write something else. The more you write, the more you will improve, therefore giving you a better chance of producing something that will really catch the publisher's eye.
