    Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of the weight of a person in relation to the height. It is defined as the individual's body weight divided by the square of their height. BMI provides a numeric value describing a person's "fatness" or "thinness". For a given height, the BMI is proportional to weight, for example, if an individuals weight increase by 50%, the BMI would also increase by 50%, provided the height remains the same.
    It should be noted that the accuracy of BMI is distorted by facts such as fitness level. Muscle mass, bone structure, gender and ethnicity. For example, an Olympic gymnast may have a higher BMI number than a power weight lifter because of greater bone and muscle mass. People will short stature also tend to gave a lower BMI.

    Body Mass Index values are broadly categorized in the following way; an optimum weight has a BMI value of 18.5 to 25. An underweight person would have a number lower than 18.5, while a figure above 25 indicates a person is overweight. BMI values below 17.5 and above 30 points to anorexia and obesity, respectively

      BMI or Body Mass Index is a number that is calculated to check the level of fatness. It is based on the Height and Weight of the human beings. It tell us either we are underweight, overweight, normal of facing Obesity. Its an easy and inexpensive method for checking weight status.

      Calculation of BMI is very easy, all you have to do is you must have your Height and Weight figure with you. You can calculate you BMI yourself by using the standard formula, or you can find a BMI calculator online. Following are some sites that give you BMI formula.

      Open anyone of these link. You will see a box in front of you demanding your height and weight, once you find put your figures into the boxes and press calculate you will see your BMI.

      Following is the formula for calculation of BMI in case you do not have access to internet.

      Formula: Weight (lb) / [height (in)2] x 703
      Calculate BMI by dividing weight in pounds (lbs) by height in inches (in) squared and multiplying by a conversion factor of 703.

      Example: Weight = 150 lbs, Height = 5'5" (65")
      Calculation: [150 ÷ (65)2] x 703 = 24.96
