Baby clothes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and in summer it is important to clothe your baby to suit the warmer, more extreme conditions.

Breathable fabrics such as natural cotton and linen are good choices for very warm weather, as your baby needs to keep cool and comfortable. Synthetics such as nylon and polyester will have a tendency to make your baby too warm, as his body heat will not be able to escape as quickly as more natural fibres.

For girls I would recommend summer dresses which are sleeveless and therefore cool. These dresses usually come with a matching pair of baby underpants to wear over baby's nappy. Little skirts and shirts are good also, plus of course t-shirts and sleeveless bodysuits which are also suitable for baby boys.

Remember also that your baby needs to be protected from the sun's harmful rays. It is worth investing in a variety of sun hats for your baby - many come with a roll-down flap to cover baby's neck and ears.

Finally, if your baby is out in sunshine, ALWAYS apply sun lotion of SPF40 or higher to completely protect their skin. If your baby does get sunburnt, not only will he be very uncomfortable and unrested, you are putting him at risk from very harmful UV rays which can lead to skin diseases.
