What Is Better - Test Cricket Or One-day Cricket?

Answer Question

8 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

If one cares to ponder from a player perspective, test cricket has an obvious advantage over one-day cricket.   It gives every cricketer a greater range of opportunity to prove his prowess as well as  providing a more glorious prospect of acknowledgement of the player's achievements.  In other words, Test cricket is a steadier, more enriching and needless to say the original form of cricket.  The  allure that it holds for serious lovers of the game still makes it superior to one-day cricket.

If Test cricket has maintained its charisma over the years, it's One-day cricket whose constantly growing popularity is menacing enough to eclipse the awe-inspiring yet archaic glory of Test cricket.  A favorite for the conventional cricket audience, one-day international matches have what it takes to bewitch even the diehard cricket fans – the fast pace, the colorful vibrancy, the spontaneous thrill- some attributes, which Test cricket is still devoid of!

I just love one day cricket because test cricket is boring and very lengthy. One day cricket is faster and very exciting to watch.

In test cricket, it really takes out all our ability to perform over a period of 5 days. One cannot just throw his wicket away. Test match is a test of a player's patience and skill.
But in one day internationals, we can just swing the bat wildly and hope that we make good contact in the depth. In reality, a bowler in an ODI hopes that he does not get smashed by the batsman. All this is not seen in a test match.
Hence I think, that test matches rule ODIs.

Test cricket is the real cricket as for as the performance and looking for the technical flaws of the players is concerned. It's a five day game and playing for continuously five days is also the test of the fitness of the player and it also reveals to which extent a cricketer is good at his abilities. One day cricket is more of now you can say commercialized and glamorize.
The advantage of one day game is that cricket lovers get the result more quickly than test cricket. But in one day game if a player is even not good technically but if he can help his test in wining the one day game he is prefer over a good batsman that make his runs slow and will be reserved only for test games. Test cricket on the other hand according to many people and according to players is the real cricket. And you can present your abilities in a real sense there. Because you play the game according to the merit and bring in to use all your talent. On day game is limited over game and you need to runs more quickly so therefore it's really colorful and eventful.

One day cricket is more colorful and result oriented one in contrast to test cricket. Its more entertainment and fun in it for the crowed. More over now a days most of the one day is played under light so called a day and night game which add more colors to one day cricket. Now about test cricket, yes it may be slow and not that much result oriented one but for players I think it more important rather than one day cricket because it really make them technically correct and much more confident and a complete player.

A it is a five day game you can relax down a bit and also you do not feel the sort of pressure as in the case of one day game where you are always under pressure and you have to be really correct in making decisions . In test cricket if some thing some times go bad in your way you can recover that in the second innings , I mean that there is a margin for error in that but in one day game you can say that you have a little margin for error. Having said that the important thing is that people like one day game more then test, because it is more of a fun having white ball used, match played at night under lights and players in colorful uniform.

One day cricket is better as it doesn't get as boring as Test cricket.

Test cricket is sheer test of skill of players. Whereas one day cricket is for playing fast paced and according to the situation

It is good idea now ICC thinking to reduce test match to 4 days. I think they should reduce to 60 over per day rather 90 overs. Reason is simple. Test matches needs to be result oriented too. Most of test matches ended in draw if we look in history. Plus its wrong to say in test matches players have chance of recovery from their mistakes bcuz they get more time to fix errors. Giving more time will not take us anywhere. Only challenges can fix errors. This wud make players more concentrate on their game rather than taking it light and slow.
