What Are The Benefits Of Fruit And Vegetables?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The results of a study have confirmed that a diet that lacks in vegetables and fruit is not only not a balanced diet, but also increases the risks of contracting cancer or a cardiovascular disease. Fruit and vegetable are rich in essential vitamins and minerals, and they have all the other essential nutrients required by the body, namely proteins, carbohydrates, fats, roughage and water.

The consumption of fruit and vegetable has shown a steady decline over the years. The current scenario is very bleak. In the year 2003-2004, the consumption of fruit and vegetables in the United Kingdom fell by about 1.6 per cent. However, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has left no stone unturned in their efforts to promote vegetarianism (and veganism, which advocates abstinence from animal products of any kind, including eggs and dairy products) as a much healthier way to live.

The department has, in fact, started an aggressive campaign to convince people to stop consuming meat and fish and adopt vegetarianism. Studies conducted by the department reveal that two of every three Britons die of cardiovascular diseases or cancer every year.
