Blink theory is the theory which says that we know the right answer or make a judgment within the first few seconds, within the blinking of an eye etc. Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book called Blink which says that our reactions within the shortest time periods are often correct and that with time we persuade ourselves otherwise.
This can be born out within the audition setting for actors. The director or acting teacher knows within about the first five to ten seconds whether the candidate will be successful. The years of training (expertise or in life as simply being a human) join themselves together to form a snap or snapshot judgment. It is very rarely that we are wrong in these cases.
Blink theory is born out by psychology. The Harvard psychology department has found that we unconsciously discriminate against people on the basis of all sorts of things within the tiniest fractions of seconds.
