The "Haiku" form of poetry is very simple to learn.  Haiku poems have three "lines" or stanzas.  The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7, and the third has 5.  Here is an example:

    Citizenship means
To leave behind all I've known
    For my Uncle Sam

You might try writing several of these to satisfy the requirement of the assignment.
